Traffic Advisory: Temporary Lane Closure on 5500 Block of Elysian Fields Avenue
 NEW ORLEANS — Beginning Thursday, April 6, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Command Construction Industries, LLC, will temporarily close a northbound travel lane in the 5500 block of Elysian Fields Avenue to vehicular traffic to accommodate subsurface utility repairs as part of the Milneburg Group A construction project. A single travel lane will be open to vehicular traffic. The lane closure will begin at 2 p.m. and will remain in effect until Friday, April 21 at 5:30 p.m. Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
During this temporary closure, crews will be working in the closed lane between Odin Street and Mendez Street. Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvass.
The Milneburg Group A project was designed by Mott MacDonald, Inc., and is being constructed by Command Construction Industries, LLC. The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing sewage, water, and drainage lines; rebuilding the street entirely; and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by winter 2023, weather permitting.
Since May 2018, DPW has completed 158 projects at an estimated value of $581 million. Today, 51 roadwork projects are under construction at an estimated value of nearly $583 million.
