MAYOR CANTRELL MEETS WITH GERMAN DELEGATION TO HIGHLIGHT PRIORITIES, DISCUSS COLLABORATING WITH EUROPEAN GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESS LEADERS

Mayor Cantrell - German Delegation

NEW ORLEANS — On Thursday, Nov. 3, Mayor LaToya Cantrell met with the Association of Former Members of Congress and the Congressional Study Group on Germany, comprised of members of the German Parliament and business executives in technology, energy and other industries to share the City’s priorities, provide insight into challenges our residents are facing and discuss how both New Orleans and Germany can work together to address and mitigate these issues.

During the dinner, Mayor Cantrell highlighted the City of New Orleans as a global center of commerce and foreign direct investment, speaking heavily to the City’s economic development priorities and policies related to making New Orleans a more climate-resilient City.

“Overall, my administration’s vision and goals demonstrate the City’s strong commitment to diversifying our growing economy, strengthening our resiliency as a low-lying coastal city on the frontlines of the climate crisis and most importantly, meeting our people where they are,” said Mayor Cantrell. “We are actively working to cultivate New Orleans as a green energy hub, including wind and green hydrogen. We continue to see growth in the technology sector and are looking to partner with German companies. We are also becoming a major hub for transportation, trade and logistics, and we have joined thousands of cities worldwide to set a goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The City of New Orleans is focused on a range of priority industries where we can collaborate with German government and business leaders and look forward to continuing this ongoing dialogue to actively join forces, create meaningful partnerships and deliver results for our people.”

The German delegation is led by German Economic Institute Director Dr. Michael Hüther and includes numerous corporate executives and directors from blue-chip companies based in Germany and throughout Europe, as well as current and former members of the German Parliament. The delegation was comprised of members of the Berlin-based Atlantik-Brücke (Atlantic Bridge), a prominent non-profit and non-partisan Berlin-based association dedicated to strengthening foreign exchanges between politics and business.

Attendees from the Cantrell Administration included Chief of Staff Clifton Davis, Director of International Relations Rosine Pema Sanga, Director of Intergovernmental Relations Arthur Walton, External Relations Manager Zach Monroe of the Office of Resilience and Sustainability and Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany Susanne Cooper.
