City of New Orleans Waives Brake Tag Late Fees for Orleans Parish Residents as Part of Amnesty Program in Effort to Bring More Vehicles into Safety Compliance
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that late fees will temporarily be waived for residents whose brake tags, also known as inspection stickers, are expired. In order to avoid those late fees permanently, vehicles with expired brake tags must be re-inspected by Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.
“Brake Tag inspections and Brake Tag stickers are indicators that drivers have taken appropriate steps to operate their vehicle safely,” said Sarah McLaughlin-Porteous, Acting Director of the Department of Public Works which oversees the Brake Tag program in the City of New Orleans. “Inspectors check to make sure headlights work, tail and brake lights work and that horns and brakes on vehicles are all in working order. This increases the likelihood that vehicles are operating safely and can see and warn other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists as they travel throughout the City.”

There are currently eight brake tag stations operating in Orleans Parish. Vehicles registered in Orleans Parish may only have their vehicle inspected in Orleans Parish.

- Big Easy Tire & Lube, 5000 Old Gentilly Road
- Delta Fuel, 3300 S. Claiborne Ave.
- New Orleans East Tires, 7603 Chef Menteur Highway
Annual Brake Tag inspection stickers are $25 per year.
