NOPD Identifies Suspect Wanted in Seventh District Shooting, Armed Robbery Incident

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Ivan Ballard (pictured, black male, DOB: 01-16-2003, 6’0”, 180 pounds, medium build) in the investigation of an armed robbery and shooting incident that occurred today (August 12, 2022) in the 7800 block of Sail Street.

Through investigation, NOPD Seventh District detectives have determined this incident was domestic in nature. As the female victim was reportedly retrieving property at the location, the suspect – later positively identified as Ballard – allegedly armed himself and demanded money from the victim. The victim reportedly refused, at which time Ballard was said to have fired a gunshot that grazed the victim to the leg. Ballard then allegedly took the victim’s money at gunpoint. As the victim was leaving the scene in her vehicle, Ballard reportedly fired additional gunshots, striking the victim’s vehicle. The victim transported herself to the NOPD Seventh District station, where she refused medical treatment.

When located, Ballard will be arrested on charges of armed robbery with a gun and for attempted second-degree murder in connection with this investigation.
