MAYOR LATOYA CANTRELL ISSUES STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR THE BIDEN-HARRIS HOUSING SUPPLY ACTION PLAN

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued the following statement of support of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Housing Supply Action Plan, which was released by The White House this week:

“I commend the Biden-Harris Administration for their recently announced Housing Supply Action Plan,” said Mayor Cantrell. “Under my leadership, New Orleans has advanced progressive zoning reforms to increase housing opportunities for our residents by allowing for affordable small multifamily developments, affordable housing planned developments, and inclusionary zoning. I look forward to continuing this work with local, state, and federal partners by fully implementing the Biden-Harris Administration's Housing Action Plan at the local level.”

The Housing Supply Action Plan aims to close the housing supply gap in five years and is lauded as the most comprehensive guidance on increasing housing supply from the federal government in history. It also scales up a new approach to incentives that rewards communities actively advancing land use policies. The White House states that "the plan is meant to ease the housing supply shortfall which burdens family budgets, drives up inflation, limits economics growth, maintains residential segregation, and exacerbates climate change... with a particular impact on low- and moderate-income families, and people and communities of color."
