CITY OF NEW ORLEANS CELEBRATES THIRD YEAR OF SOLAR FOR ALL NOLA PROGRAM
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced the start of Solar for All NOLA’s third year of successful clean energy initiatives available for New Orleans homeowners and small businesses through the financial and resiliency benefits of rooftop solar programs. Solar for All NOLA supports the Cantrell Administration’s commitment to reduce energy costs for lower income families and those on fixed incomes, while creating quality jobs and making New Orleans a more climate-resilient city.
“Our Solar For All NOLA program continues to deliver the City’s climate action goals and helps to reduce energy costs for the people of New Orleans,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “In partnership with PosiGen and Solar Alternatives, rooftop solar helps to make housing more affordable and puts New Orleans at the forefront of smart, creative, clean energy. I encourage all homeowners and small business owners to take advantage of this program and contact Solar for All NOLA to solicit a free analysis on how they can benefit from rooftop solar.”
Since 2019, the solar initiative has reduced energy costs for more than 1,000 homeowners and business owners in New Orleans, making it possible for most customers to utilize solar programs at no cost. The program offers 100 percent financing solutions to solar feasible homeowners, with no required deposit or credit checks. It provides accessibility to energy efficiency upgrades, or traditional financing for eligible homeowners and small business owners who wish to purchase their system. The program also delivers solar and energy efficiency to homeowners who are left out of traditional programs but will undoubtedly benefit the most from energy savings. Program partners PosiGen Solar and Solar Alternatives will provide free solar evaluations to all homeowners and small business owners interested in accessing possible utility bill savings.
Solar For All NOLA accomplishments include:
GOING GREEN: More than 1,000 New Orleans homeowners and business owners have taken advantage of this opportunity to lower energy costs through rooftop solar and energy efficiency.
SOLAR SAVINGS: Solar For All NOLA lease customers saved more than $5.3 million annually, averaging about $800 per customer, due to rooftop solar and energy efficiency.
JOB CREATION: Louisiana has held onto its more than 3,000 solar jobs despite COVID pandemic impacts and kept nearly 1,300 solar jobs in the Metro New Orleans area. Since 2015, the solar industry nationwide has grown over 200 percent and is projected to grow more than 40 percent over the next decade.
“Since 2011 PosiGen has helped to close the clean energy affordability gap by delivering the benefits of low-cost solar and energy efficiency to New Orleanians who don’t typically have access to solar,” said Tom Neyhart, PosiGen CEO. “We focus on low-income families and communities of color because we want to make an impact on deserving families, and we know those families will benefit the most from the savings this program offers. Through the Solar For All NOLA program, PosiGen is furthering our mission to make solar available to everyone.”
"Keeping the lights on after storms and the bills low during the summer is always important to our New Orleans community,” said Jeffrey Cantin, President of Solar Alternatives. “We’re glad to be a part of the successful Solar for All NOLA program and helping residents and businesses grow stronger with clean reliable solar energy,”
