Route, Timing, and Traffic Impacts for the 2021 Krewe of Boo Parade
NEW ORLEANS — The Krewe of Boo parade will take place in New Orleans this Saturday, Oct. 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic is anticipated in the Marigny, French Quarter and Central Business District. The City of New Orleans encourages residents and visitors to plan ahead for crowds and traffic delays and to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID.
The New Orleans Health Department, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health, will be conducting a COVID-19 surveillance study at the Krewe of Boo parade. The purpose of the study is to better understand how vaccinations and mask usage provide a protective factor from COVID-19 during a Carnival-type event. NOHD employees, volunteers and partners will be surveying krewe members, parade participants, and crowd goers before, during and after the parade and will be giving out free home COVID-19 tests that uses smartphone technology. The information from this study will help to inform decisions around Carnival 2022.
Public Safety
The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will be activating a Command Post at the Real Time Crime Center in partnership with public safety partners to monitor the parade route and provide public safety support services.
The New Orleans Police Department will assign personnel to the Marigny, French Quarter and Central Business District for traffic control, walking beats, and area patrols, while continuing to carry out normal operations throughout the city. As always, residents and visitors are reminded to take care in large crowds and to report any suspicious activity to a public safety official.
