Transit Oriented Communities Working Group Hosts

First Public Meeting Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans City Planning Commission, the Regional Transit Authority and the Mayor's Office of Transportation are in the process of developing a comprehensive Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) plan for Orleans Parish together with other City agencies and local stakeholders. The TOC working group looks forward to presenting and engaging community members in the first stage of their background work at the Transit Oriented Communities Public Meeting on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will take place on Webex and can be accessed by visiting www.nola.gov/tocmeeting.

Transit Oriented Communities (TOCs) are neighborhoods characterized by a mix of active uses, equitable housing options and economic opportunities that have access to effective and convenient transit options. TOC design elements reduce travel distance for daily activities and increase convenience of transit, making it easier to access everyday resources. The study will be used to produce a framework for transit-oriented communities in New Orleans, and direct funding thoughtfully throughout the city in a way that supports the core needs of our communities.

The meeting will begin with an interactive presentation reviewing TOC characteristics, goals and study framework, followed by an opportunity for public questions and conversation.

If you are interested in the project, more information can be found on the TOC webpage here. The working group created a survey for community input which can be found here. Any questions or comments can be sent to toc@nola.gov. If you are unable to attend the meeting, the presentation and meeting notes will be available on the webpage.
