NOLA Back 2 School Fest Presented by Shell – Saturday August 1 To Provide Free Backpacks and School Supplies Students in Grades K-6

The NOLA Back 2 School Fest presented by Shell will take place on Saturday, August 1 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. alongside the Xavier University Convocation Center, 7910 Stroelitz Street. Pre-registration at www.nolaback2schoolfest.org is required to ensure that every student registered receives a backpack and supplies.

The annual distribution of 4,000 FREE backpacks filled with essential school supplies for New Orleans area students in grades K-6 will look a little different this year because of COVID-19. For the health and safety of students, their parents/caregivers, and volunteers, Shell will host a Drive-Thru backpack distribution along Stroelitz Street in front of the Xavier University Convocation Center.

While we are disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to introduce parents/caregivers and students to the vital community organizations that serve children and families at the event year, it is important for families to know who they can turn to for help and services in the Greater New Orleans area. To this end, along with backpacks, we will distribute a “parent/caregiver resource bag,” that we hope to fill with informational brochures, flyers, and educational materials that inform and connect parents/caregivers to businesses, organizations, providers, and critical services community-wide.

We invite child and family-centered organizations to participate by providing materials to be included in the 1,000 resource bags. Materials are requested no later than Tuesday, July 21 to prepare for volunteers who will sort materials and fill bags on July 24 and 25.
