ICYMI: COVID-19 Week in Review (May 17-May 22):

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans continues its weekly digest of key news items provided by the Mayor's Office of Communications and NOLA Ready as a way to remind residents of the actions, resources and other news they can use for reference, with a focus on the City's response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Recycling Drop-Off Cancellation Reminder to Residents of Orleans Parish (May 22)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Sanitation’s Recycling Drop-Off Center event scheduled for this Saturday, May 23, has been cancelled.

Slow Streets Initiative on Moss Street Receives High Marks from Residents (May 22)

The City released data that illustrate the successful implementation of the Slow Streets initiative that temporarily limited vehicular traffic on a one-mile stretch of Moss Street along Bayou St. John to expand social distancing opportunities for safe recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Cantrell Announces Youth Summer Programming in Response to COVID-19 (May 20)

Mayor LaToya Cantrell joined other City officials to announce the summer programming options for area youth as the City continues its safe, phased reopening in response to the COVID-19 outbeak.

City Partners with CORE on Mobile Testing Sites Across New Orleans (May 19)

The City of New Orleans Health Department is coordinating with Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) to provide a monthlong mobile site to test residents across New Orleans for COVID-19, starting in Central City. The site is expected to serve 200 residents each day.

City of New Orleans Encourages Eligible Families to Apply for Pandemic-EBT Program (May 18)

The City of New Orleans is encouraging families of children who receive free or reduced price school meals to apply for the recently approved Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program.

City of New Orleans Expands Outdoor Seating Options During Phase One (May 17)

The City of New Orleans Department of Safety and Permits has announced it will temporarily suspend enforcement of off-street parking requirements for restaurants and bars with a Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) food permit and will issue temporary Sidewalk Use Permits in order to provide additional outdoor seating that is properly socially distanced.
