Thursday: Algiers Residents Invited to Teleconference to
Discuss Moving New Orleans Bikes Work
NEW ORLEANS — As part of the Moving New Orleans Bikes initiative, the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and the Department of Public Works on Thursday, April 16, will host a teleconference to discuss the build-out of three new bike corridors in Algiers. This will be the first of two meetings this month and is a follow-up to the conceptual design meetings held in August 2019. The meeting will run from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
"We are excited to move the work forward in spite of the COVID-19 outbreak and with the invaluable collaboration with the residents of Algiers, and look forward to feedback through this teleconference," said Laura Bryan, Director, Mayor's Office of Transportation.
The Department of Public Works soon will begin work on the three corridors below. Algiers residents are encouraged to join the meeting to get more details on the routes and how the upcoming changes may impact them.
- Lawrence Street (Hendee Street to Odeon Avenue): Shared-use path through Behrman Park and bike boulevard
- Newton Street (Brooklyn Avenue to Behrman Avenue): Protected bike lanes and bike boulevard
- Mardi Gras Boulevard/Florence Street (L.B. Landry Avenue to Behrman Highway): Two-way protected bike lane
These projects are part of the Moving New Orleans Bikes Algiers rapid-build projects, which include a total of 11 miles of new bikeways across 11 different corridors.
