Wednesday: Moving New Orleans Bikes

Shows Preliminary Design in Algiers

Arthur Monday

NEW ORLEANS – As part of the Moving New Orleans Bikes initiative, the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and the Department of Public Works on Wednesday will present modifications to lane layouts for 10 corridors in Algiers. The purpose of this meeting is to allow the public to review and provide feedback.

Wednesday's meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Arthur Monday Multi-Service Center (1111 Newton St.).

This is the second of two meetings in Algiers. The first meeting was held Aug. 22 at University of Holy Cross.

“As we move into the implementation phase of Moving New Orleans Bikes, we have preliminary designs ready for public review and input for our first set of projects. We’re excited to meet Algiers residents where they are so they can get an up-close look and help us move the design forward,” said Office of Transportation Policy and Program Manager Dan Jatres. “We will be looking at how we are quickly building 11 miles of bikeways across nine corridors, and we want the residents of these neighborhoods to come engage on the design of these projects.”

Below is a look at the nine corridors and their routes. Residents are encouraged to attend the meetings to get more details on the routes and to provide feedback.

  • Woodland Highway (General Meyer to Tullis)

  • MacArthur Boulevard (Woodland to General DeGaulle)

  • Holiday Drive (Berhman to General Meyer)

  • Wall Boulevard (Holiday to General DeGaulle)

  • Garden Oaks (Old Behrman to General DeGaulle)

  • Westbend Parkway (General DeGaulle to Wall)

  • Odeon Avenue (Wall to Patterson)

  • Lawrence Street (Odeon to Behrman)

  • Newton Street (Mississippi River Levee Path to Behrman)

  • Mardi Gras Boulevard/Florence (Old Behrman to LB Landry)

The City is presenting preliminary striping layouts for these corridors. See map below.
