Connect the Crescent Demonstration Ends This Week

NEW ORLEANS — Bike Easy, along with a coalition of partners and support from the City of New Orleans, will begin removal of the Connect the Crescent demonstration mobility project on Thursday, Dec. 13 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Residents should expect limited access to curb space as volunteers and contractors remove temporary roadway striping and re-configure the public right of way. Commuters should also plan to travel at reduced speed and expect intermittent roadway closures during the removal activities, which are scheduled to last Friday, Dec. 14.

Removal activities are planned on the following stretches of roadway:

  • Dryades Street from Howard Avenue to Calliope Street
  • Howard Avenue from Baronne to O'Keefe streets
  • Baronne Street from Canal Street to Howard Avenue
  • Tchoupitoulas Street from Canal to Gravier streets
  • Canal Street from Tchoupitoulas Street to Convention Center Boulevard

(See map below.)

Connect the Crescent is a three-month demonstration project that showcased a connected network of low-stress bikeways, pedestrian safety measures and improved transit-stop access in the downtown area.

Bike Easy also will continue to seek public feedback on the project for two more weeks to help better inform potential future work to build safe, accessible and equitable mobility options for the city.

“We appreciate the hard work that Bike Easy and its partners put into this project to show a reimagining of bike lanes in New Orleans, and we look forward to reviewing resident input as we move forward on mobility infrastructure projects in the city. We’re excited about the future of our city as a model for mobility,” said Office of Transportation Director Laura Bryan.
