New Orleans EMS Conducts First Formal Graduation Ceremony

Mayor LaToya Cantrell and other city officials will be in attendance as six paramedics and five emergency medical technicians cross the stage Friday morning.  The eleven New Orleans EMS graduates have just completed an intense four week training.

Although this is the third graduating class in 2018, it is the first formal graduation ceremony in NOEMS history.  "Individuals who come to work for New Orleans EMS quickly realize the rigor of this life-saving career." states Dr. Emily Nichols, Director of EMS, "Our providers respond to grave disability and place their bodies and minds at risk similar to NOPD and NOFD - they do this so that others may live. The eleven current graduates have undergone intense training to prepare themselves for this experience, and we are eager for the opportunity to recognize and celebrate them in a formal fashion."

This most recent academy was extended for another week to provide additional training.  “We now include AMLS, PHTLS and PALS certification so that our medics have the most knowledge possible when responding to emergencies in New Orleans” states Deputy Chief Lynn Ramagos, coordinator of Education and Training.

Mayor Cantrell, along with other city leaders will be present tomorrow morning.
