Message from the Mayor
 Dear
Friends,
Our Capital Improvement Program has been
underway for just over a year. The $2.3 billion program combines federal and
local dollars, making it the most comprehensive infrastructure revamp our
region has seen in decades.
We are currently working on more than two dozen
distinct roadwork infrastructure projects including Fleur De Lis Drive,
Magnolia Bridge, Cherokee Street, Lakeview North Group A, Lakeview South Group A, Fountainebleau, Lakewood
Group A, Wisner Bridge, St. Charles Avenue, South Galvez Street, Monique and
Eton streets, Belleville Street, Pittari Street, Gentilly Terrace Group A,
Lakeshore Group A, Lake Terrace and Oaks Group A, Oak Park, Filmore, Desire Group A, Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group A, Lower Ninth Ward Northeast Group A, Michoud Boulevard, Village De L’Est Group A, Read Boulevard East Group A, Read
Boulevard West Group A, West Bank Group A, and Joe W. Brown Memorial Park.
Ultimately, the
positive impacts of the Capital Improvement Program will be felt by every
neighborhood in the city. Fixing our infrastructure is a priority because with
improved infrastructure, New Orleans can continue to grow economically and
become more resilient. Today, we celebrate the progress that has been made and
the improvement to come as we work to make New Orleans a better home for future
generations.

Efforts to Minimize Impacts:
- Construction signage placed around the sites.
- Any temporary closures will be communicated in advance.
- Any changes to garbage and U.S. Postal services will be communicated in advance.
- Residents will be informed throughout construction.

As part of the Capital Improvement Program, Sewerage & Water Board may be replacing lead services between the water main and meters, which may cause temporary elevations in lead levels. If you are notified that a lead service from the water main will be replaced, click here for next steps.

Isaac Drain Point Repair Project Is Now 78 Percent Complete
 The Department of Public Works’ construction contractor, Wallace C Drennan, Inc. is approximately 78 percent complete with the Hurricane Isaac Drain Point Repair Project. The approximate $2M project, which is designed to improve drainage conditions throughout the City of New Orleans, originated from a list of complaints received via 311 related to drainage issues after Hurricane Isaac caused severe street flooding.
Since the project began in December 2017, crews have inspected 67 of the 69 total sites that were identified as needing drainage point repairs and completed 83 of 100 total locations. While inspections and drainage repairs continue city-wide, crews are also reviewing additional locations to potentially include in the program.
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Cleaning existing catch basins and drain lines;
- Inspecting drain lines with a camera to determine the pipe’s condition;
- Installation of new drain lines, catch basins and manholes;
- Performing point repairs to existing drain lines; and
- Restoring the pavement and / or sidewalk over drain line installations as needed.
The project was designed by Richard C. Lambert Consultants, LLC and funded by a Community Development Block Grant.
