Searching for Suspect in Auto Theft on South Claiborne Avenue
NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance
from the public in locating and identifying a suspect believed to be
responsible for an auto theft incident in the 8700 block of South Claiborne
Avenue on April 2, 2018.
The victim told police that at about 4:45 a.m.,
he was driving his gray 2009 Chevrolet Silverado truck, bearing Louisiana
license plate #C395781, in the area when he stopped at a gas station to
re-fuel. He entered the store and notices three unknown subjects – two black
males and a black female – who began arguing with the victim. The victim said
he exited the store to pump fuel into a gas can and that the subjects followed
him. The pictured male wearing a white T-shirt with a towel then reportedly approached
the victim and made a threatening gesture that the victim believed was the
subject reaching for a handgun. The victim said he jumped back from the
subject, at which time the subject then entered the victim’s vehicle and drove
away from the location onto Eagle Street. The victim told police he had left
the keys inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The vehicle was later recovered on April 4, after
it was located parked on the shoulder of the road near the intersection of
Earhart Boulevard and Monroe Street.
Anyone with information regarding this
incident or the pictured subject is asked to contact Second District detectives
at 504-658-6020 or call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll free at 1-877-903-7867.
