Traffic Advisory: Canal Street between Dorsiere and Bourbon Streets
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans,
Department of Public Works will reduce travel lanes on Canal Street between Dorsiere
and Bourbon Streets to one lane beginning at 4 a.m. on Thursday, August 17,
2017. The lane reduction will allow construction crews to finish concrete
placement on the 100 block of Bourbon Street. Work hours will also be
temporarily extended until 10 p.m.
Public
safety is our top priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution
when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site. Signage and
traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct
drivers and pedestrians.
The
intersection of Iberville Street at Bourbon Street continues to be closed to
through traffic as construction crews install new underground utilities. The
intersection will re-open to traffic on August 25, weather permitting, once the
utilities are installed and the new concrete pavement placed.
The French
Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project, as part of New Orleans Citywide
Public Safety Plan, calls for removing and replacing existing water and
drainage lines, repairing the sewer line, repaving the roadway in concrete,
installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at
intersections.
