Capital Improvement Program Newsletter - May 2017

Message from the Mayor

Mayor

The City of New Orleans' Department of Public Works and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans are working together like never before to implement the most robust infrastructure improvement program that our region has seen in a generation, the $2.4B Capital Improvement Program.

Earlier this month, we began the first FEMA-funded project in the Capital Improvement Program, Lakeview North Group A. And there are many others coming down the pipeline. With more than 200 projects in total, there will be a record amount of street work across the city.

Aside from the many benefits, we understand that this construction will have impacts on our local residents and businesses.  To that end, we are continuing to ensure that there are plenty of resources available to learn about the individual projects so that you can prepare before construction projects begin in your neighborhood.

Fixing our streets is a priority so that New Orleans can continue to grow economically and become more and more resilient. We thank you for your continued support as our Capital Improvement Program partners.

Sincerely,

MAYOR

Mitchell J. Landrieu,
Mayor City of New Orleans

With this positive outcome in mind, we've created this guide to road construction. Whether you’re a seasoned business owner or the new shop on the block, we hope this guide provides some new ideas and helpful resources.

Replacement of Lead Service Lines

As part of the Capital Improvement Program, the SWB may be replacing lead service between the water main and residential or business meters. This could cause lead levels in your drinking water to increase temporarily (this could last several weeks to several months).  When you are notified by the Sewerage & Water Board that a lead service from the water main to your residence or business will be replaced, you should complete the following steps here.

For more tips on reducing lead in drinking water visit our  website at www.swbno.org or the Environmental Protection  Agency’s website at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead. For more information call 52-WATER (504-529-2837).
