UPDATE ON DRUNK DRIVING CRASH AT ENDYMION PARADE

NEW ORLEANS - The NOPD is continuing their investigation into a drunk driving incident that occurred last night at the intersection of North Carrollton and Orleans Avenue.

 

Of the 28 victims reported at the scene: 21 patients transported by EMS with 7 declining EMS on scene.  Ages ranged from 1 year old to patients in their 50s.  At least 3 remained hospitalized overnight with moderate to serious injuries. There were no fatalities.

 

The driver in this incident, identified as Neilson Rizzuto (DOB: 12/26/1991), was arrested at the scene and later charged with two counts of first-degree negligent vehicular injuring, one count of hit-and-run driving causing serious injury and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle. The suspect was administered a Standard Field Sobriety test, which he failed. A breath alcohol test determined the suspect’s alcohol level was .232%--- nearly three times the legal limit. The investigation is ongoing.
