Welcome Table New Orleans Carrollton Circle to Unveil New Seating Area on Jefferson Davis Parkway Neutral Ground
NEW ORLEANS—On Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, the Carrollton
Circle of the Welcome Table New Orleans (WTNO)—Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s
citywide initiative focused on race, reconciliation and community building—will unveil a newly-constructed seating area on the neutral ground at Jefferson
Davis Parkway and Cleveland Avenue called the Equity Circle. At 2 p.m., the
entire community is invited to participate in the unveiling of the Equity
Circle.
In collaboration
with the Department of Parks and Parkways, the Equity Circle is designed to
bring together diverse groups of New Orleanians to share stories and
experiences, build relationships and learn from each other. The Equity Circle
will create a more attractive neutral ground for the community and enhance the
beauty of one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city. It will bring
residents of all backgrounds and experiences together for one reason—to
create a better, stronger New Orleans.
"We applaud
the Welcome Table New Orleans Carrollton Circle for their inspiring efforts to
tackle the issues of race, reconciliation and community through this citywide
initiative," said Deputy Mayor Judy Reese Morse. "Their vision
of creating an Equity Circle for the community to discuss life experiences and
share stories to build relationships highlights the importance of focusing on
what connects us instead of what divides us. We are confident that this Equity
Circle will raise awareness of the need for racial reconciliation and create
discussion around working and building together.”
This Carrollton
Circle project is one of eight Circle Projects being developed by WTNO whose
mission is to foster relationship building and work for positive social change.
The hope is that through partnership and positive conversation in this
landscaped seating area, New Orleans will continue to move toward racial
reconciliation for all residents.
