NOPD Investigating Shooting at Bourbon Street That Left
One Dead, Nine Injured
NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a shooting
that occurred this morning (November 27, 2016) in the 100 block Bourbon Street involving
a total of 10 victims, including one who has died from his injuries.
At about 1:26 a.m., NOPD officers received a call of shots
fired near the intersection of Bourbon Street and Orleans Avenue. Dozens of
NOPD officers working special event patrol were in the area at the time of the
incident and responded immediately to the scene. Upon arrival, officers
discovered nine victims at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds of varying
severity. EMS and Acadian Ambulance transported the victims to a nearby
hospital for treatment. One of the victims, identified as a male, died at the
hospital as a result of his injuries.

Police later learned that a tenth victim from the scene who
also sustained a gunshot wound arrived at an area hospital by private
conveyance.
The victims in this incident range in age from 20 to 37
years old. Eight of the victims are males, including the deceased victim, while
two victims are females.
NOPD officers made two arrests at the scene, both males, for
illegal carrying of weapons charges. One of the arrested individuals was
identified as a victim in the incident, who is being treated for his injuries.
The second arrest was an unrelated individual found to be in illegal possession
of a handgun at the scene.
Including the two arrests made in this morning’s incident,
proactive patrol work by NOPD officers has led to 11 arrests in the past 48
hours on illegal carrying of weapons charges in the Eighth District.
Investigation into this incident is ongoing. Detectives are
gathering evidence from the area, including surveillance video footage, as well
as interviewing victims and witnesses. No further information is available at
this time.
