NOPD asking residents for their input in prioritizing
neighborhood public safety concerns
Community Engagement Night Out is scheduled for Thursday,
October 13th
NEW ORLEANS—This
month, residents will have an opportunity to identify and prioritize the top
public safety concerns in their neighborhoods at the department’s first-ever
“Community Engagement Night Out.” Building on the NOPD’s work to create a
strong community engagement and outreach plan, this night of public meetings
encourages residents to come together to identify their top public safety
priorities and to hear directly from their police district leadership on what
can be done to address their concerns.
“There is
nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together as one community, and that’s
exactly what the Community Engagement Night Out aims to do,” said NOPD
Superintendent Michael Harrison. “I encourage every resident who is invested in
making a positive difference in their community to come out to the meeting in
their district and let us know how we can best work together to make it
happen.”
Police district
leadership and officers will attend the meetings, but an independent
facilitator will lead the meetings at each location. Participants will be asked
a series of questions, and based on their feedback, the group will prioritize
the top three concerns that the district should address. Following the meeting,
each police district will develop a plan for how it will address the concerns
and how it will update the community on the progress.
