JOB APPLICANT HELPS RESTAURANT STAFF SUBDUE WOULD-BE ROBBER

NEW ORLEANS - A local applicant had a memorable job interview today and probably guaranteed himself a job.

A little after 1 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of a simple robbery at the Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen at 8700 Chef Menteur Highway. While officers were en route to the location, the dispatcher advised them that the subject was being held by employees and a potential employee.

During the 18-year-old man's job interview with the restaurant's manager, a man posing as a customer, Pablo Ciscart (DOB: 02/14/1966), grabbed an unknown amount money from the register when the cashier opened the cash drawer to give him his change. The assistant manager grabbed the suspect’s arm and a brief struggle ensued. Ciscart was able to pull away from her and headed for the door with the cash, but the manager was at the front door using her body to block the exit.

Ciscart attempted to push the manager out of the way but the job applicant grabbed the suspect from behind in a reverse bear hug. Realizing he was overmatched, Ciscart threw the cash on the floor and surrendered to the manager and the applicant, who held him until police arrived.

Once on the scene, Detective Donald Sharp interviewed Ciscart and he admitted to committing the crime. Officers also discovered that Ciscart has a warrant from St. Bernard Parish for a similar crime. He was transported to Central Lockup where he was booked with the simple robbery and fugitive attachment.

The Seventh District is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6070.
