City of Baker Wins Louisiana Municipal Association Achievement Award!
On Friday, August 4, 2023, the City of Baker was awarded with the Best Project/Program in Basic Services. The award, pictured below, was presented Friday evening to Mayor Waites at the annual LMA convention.
Mayor Waites said "I would like to recognize and thank my staff whose efforts on fundamental programs have resulted in the City of Baker winning the LMA Achievement Award for the second time. These programs have been key to keeping you informed and getting you where you need to go. They are key to quality of life and place and I am thrilled that we continue to Move Baker Forward Together."
The Community Achievement Awards are presented each year at the LMA Annual Convention to municipalities that had outstanding projects promoting progress in municipal services during the past calendar year. Municipalities are eligible to compete in four population tiers from 3,000 and under; 3,001-10,000; 10,001-25,000; and 25,001 and over.
Winning entries are recognized by the LMA, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association, the Capital Region Planning Commission, the Louisiana Association of Planning and Development Districts, Louisiana Main Street, and the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshall.
Judging took place in July. The awards were then presented during the Annual Banquet at the LMA’s Annual Convention. All entries were judged by a representative of each of the organizations supporting the contest and a representative of the regional planning districts. (LMA does not have a representative on the judging team.)
For this competition, the City of Baker submitted the Micro-Transit Program LYNX by CATS, which has been hugely successful and highly popular with the community.
