The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Hosting is offering assistance to veterans and National Guard/Reservists with finding employment, enrolling in college, tidying up their resume, providing a free professional headshot, plus much more.
This event is entirely free and open to the public!
This fair will be a “one stop shop” to serve a multitude of employment, educational, and benefits needs. The theme for this year is “Helping Our Heroes Achieve Their Dreams.” This event will be shaped around four principles: employment, college enrollment, professional consultation, and photography. This fair will also be open to the public as well.
Employment: Our goal is to streamline the process for Veterans, National/Guard and Reserve service members who are seeking employment. At this fair, Veterans will be speaking directly to recruiters and/or hiring managers. Take advantage of this opportunity to
College Enrollment: Our goal here is make sure that every person who attends the fair is made aware of the myriad of opportunities that our universities hold. This includes guiding them through the process of college enrollment. In other words, we are rolling out the red carpet and encouraging everyone to pursue higher education, while highlighting the wonderful programs our schools offer.
Not sure if you are ready to go (or go back) to college? This is not a problem. We will have professionals at the event who will guide you through determining whether a technical, 2 year or 4 year college is a fit for you. They will also determine what educational benefits are available and how to sign up for them.
Professional Consultation: The Louisiana Workforce Commission’s Mobile Workforce Center will be onsite at this event. The talented people who work out of the mobile unit provide resume-writing advice, job search assistance, pre-employment testing, skills assessments, and group training classes.
We will have a certified Life Purpose and Career coach onsite to assist those who are seeking advice on their careers and direction in life. Counseling services will also be provided to those who are experiencing mental health anguishes associated with the stresses of finding employment.
Veterans will be able to file claims with the VA who will have a team onsite and receive current information about benefits that are available for them and their family members.
Photography: All attendees will be provided a free, professional headshot at the fair. This allows our participants to leave with employment options, college options, training, and finally a free professional headshot they can upload to their LinkedIn account, email signature block, etc. Marcy Miller Photography (https://www.marcymillerphotography.com) will be taking the headshots.
