On September 15, the Baker Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new business into the city of Baker; the Culture Goddess on 1434 Main Street.
The ribbon cutting/grand opening event was vibrant and buzzing with energy as family, friends, and clients came to celebrate Jameyelle Jack (owner) and Janila Haney (manager) as they opened in a new location.
The Baker Chamber of Commerce, as well as Mayor Darnell Waites and Councilman Robert Young, had nothing but encouraging words for the owner and manager.
The event opened with Pastor Derrick T. Williams of New Pilgrim Baptist Church in Zachary prayed over the business, thanking the Lord for his mercy in allowing this business venture to happen. Pastor Williams prayed for the Lord's blessings to be upon the family, business and all those who enter through the doors.
"I'll be celebrating 5 years of owning The Culture Goddess in October, having opened my first location in Zachary. Even as a kid, I knew that I had been blessed with this God-given talent of styling hair. After working in the corporate world, I realized that it wasn't my purpose, so I stepped out on faith and began my own business. The name comes from a belief that as a culture, we are all goddesses. Having grown up in Baker, it feels like I'm coming around full circle by having a business here," stated Jameylle Jack when asked about the history of her business.
