On August 6, 2022, the Baker Chamber of Commerce held their annual Back-to-School Giveaway at the Municipal Auditorium at City Hall.
Numerous families came out on Saturday to take part in procuring school supplies for their child or children from Pre-K to 12th grade. Various volunteers and organizations came out to show their support by being a helping hand as greeters, coordinators, and food vendors.
"We were so surprised by the turnout, but we were also so grateful to the citizens as well as our volunteers for making this family-friendly event such a great success. We are so thankful to the City of Baker School System, BREC, Diontrey Claiborne Stop the Violence, Baker Pilot Club, Baker Police Department, Baker Fire Department, The Learning Center Academy, D&D Sneaux Zone and Adam Kwenuta," Michel Woods said.
Parents went home with school uniforms and backpacks filled with supplies as children played on the Ninja course or choose from snow cones, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, or pastalaya to snack on.
"We hope that all the students have a fulfilling school year, and we can't wait to do this again!"
