On Saturday, May 22, 2021, GreaterWorks Church, located on 2024 Main Street in Baker, LA, held their food drive-thru giveaway.
The giveaway was scheduled for 11 am, yet the food and milk trucks arrived at 8 am and citizens patiently waited for those trucks to be unloaded. There was a constant stream of vehicles coming to the church to be blessed with food boxes and gallons of milk.
As each car came up to the church, members and volunteers asked, "How many families?" and filled the trunks and backseats of their cars with boxes and milk. Elvis and Trashea Richard, Larry Wilson, Danny Scott, Rea'Jean Thomas, Fred Fletcher, Tabitha Branch, Evangelist Lena Pearce and Pastor Ernest Jackson moved like a well oiled machine in the southern heat. There were also distributors, members and volunteers, who cleared out palettes as they loaded boxes and crates of milks into the back of their pick up trucks to deliver them to the trailer park behind the church as well as other areas of the community.
Pastor Ernest Jackson stated that the need of this food giveaway is so apparent and through a partnership with the church, members and volunteers; communities can have the necessary resources to help them and others.
This was more than about distributing food as Pastor Jackson and Evangelist Lena Pearce prayed for a woman who came to receive her food box for her family as well as others.
GreaterWorks has Sunday services at 1:30 pm and Thursday night Bible Study at 7:30 pm. For more information, please visit the GreaterWorks Church Facebook Page.
