EMERGENCY DECLARATION CITY OF BAKER HEAVY RAINS and WINTERY STORM EMERGENCY/DISASTER DECLARATION
WHEREAS, in order to comply and be in alignment with the intentions and the spirit of Executive Department Proclamation Number 20 JBE 2020, wherein a State of Emergency was officially declared on February 11, 2021 by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards pursuant to LA. R.S. 29:721, et seq., as a result of imminent threat of Heavy Rains, Flash Flooding and Wintery Storm Weather emergency conditions that threaten the lives and property of the citizens of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in order to be in alignment with the Emergency Declaration/Executive Order and Emergency Declaration, respectively, issued by East Baton Rouge Mayor President Sharon Weston Broome, directing the East Baton Rouge Parish Office of Homeland Security to coordinate the overall City Parish response to the Louisiana Governor’s Emergency Declaration in order that East Baton Rouge Parish may participate in the response and recovery plan administered by the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, respectively, and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the authority vested in the Office of Mayor of the City of Baker, by City of Baker Charter, Article III, Sections 3-01 and 3-07; Article II, Sections 9-31 and 9-32; Article VI, Section 14-55 and other respective Louisiana laws, Parish Ordinances and Baker Ordinances, and due to the apparent imminent threats of Heavy Rains, Flash Flooding and Wintery Storm Weather emergency conditions posed to lives, safety and property of the citizens of Baker;
NOW, I DARNELL WAITES, Mayor of the City of Baker, do hereby declare a State of Emergency in the City of Baker;
THEREFORE, effective immediately and continuing until further notice, the Mayor’s Office and all Departments within City of Baker Administration shall:
1. Stand ready to plan and execute emergency assessments, preparedness response, mitigation and recovery as directed; and 2. Stand ready to coordinate and collaborate with East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana State and U.S. Federal public health and safety emergency response officials; and 3. Continue to closely observe and implement the City of Baker Emergency Employee Workforce Guidance while continuing to observe current COVID-19 Emergency Employee Workforce Guidance as previously ordered and currently in effect; and 4. Implement and enforce curfews if and when ordered in the City of Baker.
