Closures scheduled Oct. 5-7 for pavement saw-cutting work
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of scheduled daytime closures on U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) in Madison County beginning Monday, Oct. 5, through Wednesday, Oct. 7, weather permitting.
The closures are necessary to allow crews to perform pavement saw-cutting work designed to help prevent future joint failures and extend the life of the roadway.
Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Sections of U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) will be closed to through traffic during the work.
Monday, Oct. 5
- U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) will be closed from mile point 24 (Clay Lane) to mile point 25.3, south of the KY 627 (Boonesborough Road) intersection.
- Clay Lane will remain accessible to northbound U.S. 25 traffic traveling from Richmond.
- The intersection of KY 627 (Boonesborough Road) and U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) will remain open.
- Detour: Southbound U.S. 25 traffic can turn left onto KY 627 (Boonesborough Road), then right onto KY 2878 (Colonel Road) to return to U.S. 25.
Tuesday, Oct. 6
- U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) will be closed from mile point 22.5 (KY 2878/Colonel Road) to mile point 24 (Clay Lane).
- KY 2878 (Colonel Road) will remain accessible to northbound U.S. 25 traffic traveling from Richmond.
- Clay Lane will remain accessible to southbound U.S. 25 traffic traveling from Lexington.
- Detour: Southbound U.S. 25 traffic can turn left onto KY 627 (Boonesborough Road), then right onto KY 2878 (Colonel Road) to return to U.S. 25.
Wednesday, Oct. 7
- U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) will be closed from mile point 20.3 (Derby Chase Drive) to mile point 22.5 (KY 2878/Colonel Road).
- Derby Chase Drive will remain accessible to northbound U.S. 25 traffic traveling from Richmond.
- KY 2878 (Colonel Road) will remain accessible to southbound U.S. 25 traffic traveling from Lexington.
- Detour: Southbound U.S. 25 traffic can turn left onto KY 627 (Boonesborough Road), then right onto I-75. Motorists can take Exit 90A to continue southbound on U.S. 25.
Detour signage will be in place to guide motorists around the closures, and message boards will be placed throughout the project area to alert motorists to the upcoming closures. Flaggers will be positioned within the work zone to assist local traffic.
Residents within the closure limits will maintain access to their properties through the work zone, and emergency vehicles will be permitted access at all times
All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
