Expect delays on New Circle Road between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 15, 2026) – Construction for the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project in Lexington will require temporary overnight lane closures on New Circle Road Friday, July 17. The closures will allow for leveling of the bridge approaches at the railroad bridge and the Leestown Road bridge to ensure smooth transition and overall ride quality for motorists.
Friday, July 17, at 8 p.m., contractors will close the single far left lane in each direction on New Circle Road. The outer loop lane closure will begin at Newtown Pike to just past the railroad bridge.The inner loop lane closure will begin just past Old Frankfort Pike, prior to the on-ramp merge onto New Circle Road, and end past Leestown Road. All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
At midnight, the outer loop of New Circle Road will fully close at Georgetown Road. Motorists can detour using Georgetown Road to Citation Boulevard, to Leestown Road, back to New Circle Road. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Additionally, at midnight, the inner loop of New Circle will close at Leestown Road. Motorists will detour off the exit and then continue straight to renter New Circle Road. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Friday, July 17
● At 8 p.m., the single far left lane in each direction on New Circle Road will close. The outer loop lane closure will begin at Newtown Pike to just after the bridge past Leestown Road. The inner loop lane closure will begin around Old Frankfort Pike and end past Leestown Road.
● At midnight, the outer loop of New Circle Road will fully close at Georgetown Road. Motorists can detour using Georgetown Road to Citation Boulevard, to Leestown Road, back to New Circle Road.
● Also at midnight, the inner loop of New Circle will fully close at Leestown Road. Motorists will detour off the Leestown Road exit, continue straight through the intersection, and then re-enter New Circle Road via the entrance ramp.
● All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m., Saturday morning.
● Delays are possible; please plan accordingly.
The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Road interchange, improving safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington.
