TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Athens Walnut Hill Pike Closure Scheduled in Fayette County

Slide repair operations beginning May 26

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 20, 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a scheduled road closure on Athens Walnut Hill Pike in Fayette County for slide repair operations.

Athens Walnut Hill Pike is scheduled to close beginning Tuesday, May 26, at 8 a.m. and the roadway will remain closed through Friday, May 29.

The closure is necessary for crews to repair a slide area near the bridge carrying Athens Walnut Hill Pike over Interstate 75.

Emergency vehicles and local traffic will be permitted through the area when possible.

Motorists are encouraged to use U.S. 25 (Old Richmond Road) and KY 418 (Athens Boonesboro Road) as alternate routes during the closure.

Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for signage and personnel in the area.

All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
