Lane closures and traffic shifts planned beginning May 17
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 17, 2026) —The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming traffic changes on Interstate 64 within the ongoing I-64 rehabilitation project in Fayette, Scott and Woodford counties.
The following traffic impacts are scheduled, weather permitting:
I-64 Eastbound
- Beginning Sunday, May 17 at 7 p.m. through Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m., the slow lane between mile points 71 and 73.6 will be closed for pavement repairs.
I-64 Westbound
- Monday, May 18 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. - Alternating lane closures are scheduled between mile points 69.6 and 64.8 as crews prepare for upcoming long-term traffic shifts.
- Beginning Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. - A long-term slow lane closure will be in place between mile points 71 and 64 for pavement repairs and bridge maintenance operations.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution while traveling through the work zone. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and watch for personnel and equipment in the area.
Additional traffic impacts associated with the project will be announced in advance as work progresses.
All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
