Motorists should expect increased traffic congestion May 7-8 and May 22-23
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May , 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists to expect increased traffic and congestion near Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond due to upcoming commencement ceremonies and graduation events at Alumni Coliseum.
Motorists should expect congested traffic during the following times:
EKU Commencement Ceremonies
- Thursday, May 7, 2026 – 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Friday, May 8, 2026 – 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Madison Central High School Graduation
- Friday, May 22, 2026 – 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Madison Southern High School Graduation
- Saturday, May 23, 2026 – 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Traffic control will be in place during event times, with officers managing traffic at intersections, including:
- Eastern Bypass and Veterans Boulevard
- Eastern Bypass and Lancaster Avenue
- Eastern Bypass and Roy & Sue Kidd Way
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible.
Motorists should use caution and watch for officers directing traffic in the area.
District 7 includes: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford Counties.
