Work to begin April 19 on eastbound lanes
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 16, 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming lane closures and a ramp closure on Interstate 64 in Fayette, Scott and Woodford counties as work gets underway on a highway improvement project.
The project includes pavement rehabilitation, bridge repairs and bridge painting along the corridor, and will require daily lane closures and other traffic changes to ensure work is done safely and quickly.
Eastbound I-64 Traffic Changes
Beginning Sunday night, April 19, at 7 p.m., contractors will implement overnight alternating lane closures on eastbound I-64 between mile points 65.0 (Midway Exit 65) and 71.7 (Woodford/Fayette county line), with traffic traveling in the slow lane during initial operations.
In addition, the eastbound on-ramp to I-64 at KY 341 (Midway Exit 65) will be closed beginning April 19 for approximately 30 days. A detour will be in place.
Starting April 20, at least one lane of I-64 will remain closed in the eastbound direction within the project area between mile points 65.0 and 71.7. Closures will shift between lanes and locations throughout the project.
Initial daytime work will focus between mile points 65.0 and 67.5 to begin pavement rehabilitation, bridge repair and bridge painting work.
A work zone will be in place on westbound I-64, but no lane closures will be in place at this time.
Detour for KY 341 On Ramp to I-64 East
Once the on-ramp closure from KY 341 (Midway Exit 65) to eastbound I-64 is in place beginning April 19, a detour will be active for approximately 30 days.
Motorists traveling from Midway and U.S. 421 seeking access to I-64 eastbound will not be able to enter at Exit 65 and should follow the detour via U.S. 62. Message boards and signage will be in place in advance of the closure to direct traffic.
At a later stage of construction, traffic patterns will shift. Motorists should follow message boards and signs in place in the work zone. Information on traffic impacts will be provided in advance throughout the project as work progresses.
Motorists should expect delays and use extra caution when traveling through the project area.
All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
