Expect detours for Leestown Road 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. each night; New Circle lane closures
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 19, 2026) – Temporary overnight closures on Leestown Road (US 421) and lane closures on New Circle Road (KY 4) have been rescheduled to Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24. The closures will allow beams to be set for the final phase of the new bridge carrying New Circle over Leestown Road, and were originally scheduled later next week. Work is part of the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project.
Beginning Monday at 10 p.m., contractors will close Leestown Road in both directions under the New Circle Road (KY 4) overpass. The closure will be between the two sets of ramps (mile markers 1.9-1.7). All roads will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. Drivers can detour using New Circle Road (KY4) to go to Georgetown Road (US 25) or Old Frankfort Pike (KY 1681). The closure will repeat again on Tuesday at 10 p.m. and will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Additionally, beginning Monday at 7 p.m., a single lane in the inner loop of New Circle will close, then at 10 p.m. a double lane closure will occur. When the double lane closure goes into effect, traffic will be redirected off the Leestown Road exit and continue straight across Leestown Road to the on ramp to re-enter New Circle to stay on their route. Leestown Road will be fully closed in both directions at 10 p.m.
