UPDATE: All Lanes Now Open on I-24 Ohio River Bridge Between Paducah-Metropolis
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2026) – All lanes of traffic have reopened on the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge between Paducah, Ky., and Metropolis, Ill.

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2026) – All lanes are blocked on the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge between Paducah, Ky., and Metropolis, Ill., due to a barge hit.
The U.S. Coast Guard reported a boat/barge struck the bridge during overnight hours, Feb. 19, and debris fell from the bridge.
The bridge is located at Kentucky mile point 0.0 and Illinois mile point 28.5.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has dispatched a certified bridge inspector to run a safety check on the bridge’s piers and overall structure.
All traffic is blocked at this time, pending inspection. There is no estimated duration.
Please seek alternate routes.
Passenger vehicles may detour at the U.S. 45 Ohio River "Brookport" Bridge, but semis and large commercial vehicles are not allowed to cross due to height, weight and load restrictions.
The closest detour for commercial vehicles is the U.S. 51 Cairo Bridge between Wickliffe, Ky., and Cairo, Ill.
