U.S. 42 Carrollton/Prestonville Bridge Reopens Following Inspection

UPDATE: bridge reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m.

UPDATE: The U.S. 42 Carrollton/Prestonville Bridge has reopened to all traffic following a brief KYTC bridge inspection. The bridge reopened at around 4:30 p.m.

COVINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists of a traffic alert for the U.S. 42 Carrollton/Prestonville Bridge in Carroll County. The bridge crossing over the Kentucky River has been closed out of an abundance of caution to allow bridge inspectors a safe area to inspect a bridge joint on the bridge.

U.S. 42 is blocked between KY 55 (5.57 mile point) and Second Street (5.96 mile point), a distance of 0.39 miles.

Bridge inspectors are currently en-route to review the bridge. Due to the winter storm, motorists are encouraged to stay at home; however, if motorists must detour, they should utilize higher traveled routes in this area like KY 227 in Carrollton.

KYTC will provide an update press release and social media post following the bridge inspection findings.
