UPDATE: U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge Is Open
PADUCAH, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2026) – The U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge between Wickliffe, Ky., and Cairo, Ill., has reopened to traffic following an inspection of the bridge’s navigation lighting system.

PADUCAH, Ky. (Jan. 20, 2026) – Reminder, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is planning a daytime closure on the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge connecting Wickliffe, Ky., and Cairo, Ill., on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Weather permitting, crews will inspect the electrical conduits and junction boxes for the bridge’s navigation lighting system.
To facilitate the work, the bridge will be closed to traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Motorists traveling between Kentucky and Illinois should use the I-24 Ohio River Bridge between Paducah and Metropolis as an alternate route.
KYTC District 1 will issue an update if the work is completed ahead of schedule.
