Traffic Impacts on KY 47 in Gallatin and Carroll Counties Beginning on Monday, Dec. 15

Impacts associated with the ongoing I-71 widening project

COVINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 12, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming traffic impacts on KY 47 at the Gallatin/Carroll County line beginning Monday, Dec. 15, as part of the ongoing Interstate 71 widening project.

Monday, Dec. 15:

  • Contractors will be sawcutting the existing I-71 overpass bridge over KY 47. This work will require intermittent closures of up to 15 minutes between mile points 0.3 and 0.1, managed by flaggers. Closures will occur only while sawcutting is actively underway to ensure the safety of motorists and crews.

Tuesday, Dec. 16 through Wednesday, Dec. 17:

  • Beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, KY 47 will be closed to through traffic at the I-71 underpass for demolition of the existing overpass bridge. The closure will remain in place overnight, with work expected to be completed by 7 a.m. on Wednesday. No traffic impacts are expected for I-71 during the demolition process.

Motorists should plan ahead and use an alternate route during this time. Message boards are in place to notify the public of the upcoming impacts.

This work is part of the ongoing I-71 widening project on an approximately 4.59 mile portion of I-71 in Gallatin and Carroll Counties. Learn more about the overall project here.
