Construction of New Pond River Bridge on KY 138 to Begin Next Week in Hopkins County

Limited Delays Anticipated as Construction Progresses

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (November 14, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is scheduled to begin work early next week on a project to construct a new Pond River Bridge on KY 138 at Jewel City. The project is expected to continue through July 2027 and is anticipated to have minimal impact on traffic for most of its duration.

Galusha Contracting will begin placing signage at the site on Tuesday, with construction activities ramping up later in the week. The new bridge will be built adjacent to the existing structure, allowing traffic to remain on the current roadway until the new bridge and approaches are complete.

Initial work will include building an embankment and new roadway leading to the future bridge location. During delivery of construction materials, motorists may experience occasional, short delays as trucks enter and exit the work zone. Flaggers will be present as needed to manage traffic and ensure work-zone safety.

Once the approach roadway is in place, crews will begin construction of the new bridge structure. The project also includes realigning the intersections of KY 370 and KY 281 to tie into the new KY 138 configuration.
