Traffic Switch on Combs-Hehl Bridge in Campbell County Scheduled for Wednesday Night, Nov. 5

Steel repair work continues, traffic switch needed to complete remaining eastbound repairs

COVINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming traffic switch on the Interstate 275 Combs-Hehl Bridge, which spans the Ohio River between Kentucky and Ohio.

Steel repair work on the eastbound portion of the bridge is continuing, and a traffic switch is needed to complete the remaining eastbound repairs. Beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, the contractor will close a single lane, followed by a double lane closure at 9 p.m. Traffic will be shifted to the far-left lane during this time, with all work scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.

Once the traffic switch is complete, motorists will continue to have three open lanes — two 10-foot lanes and one 11-foot lane. The narrowed lane widths provide space for barrier wall placement along the far-left lane, allowing crews to safely complete steel repairs with minimal impact to traffic flow.

When eastbound repairs are finished, crews will shift to the westbound side using a similar traffic plan. More details will be provided closer to the start of that phase.

A queue warning system has been installed on both sides of the river to alert motorists of slowed or stopped traffic on or near the bridge. The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph through the work zone for the duration of the project. Additional lane closures may be required for crane operations and steel plate installation. KYTC will issue updates when those closures are scheduled.

As the project progresses, updates will be shared on the project webpage through the Driving Northern Kentucky Progress site, the District 6 Roadshow, and KYTC District 6 social media accounts.

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
