Temporary Lane Closures Scheduled on Leestown Road Sunday, Oct. 26
Expect delays around Lees town Road (US 421) beginning Sunday, Oct. 26
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 24, 2025) – Construction for the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project in Lexington will require temporary right lane closures on Leestown Road (US 421) in both directions near Leestown Center Way this Sunday. Leestown Center Way will also close temporarily. The closures will allow pipes to be installed for drainage, milling and paving.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, contractors will close the right lane of Leestown Road northbound from from Taylor Drive to the New Circle Road inner loop on-ramp (MM 1.6 to MM 1.7), and southbound from Opportunity Way to the New Circle Road outer loop on-ramp (MM 2.0 – 1.87), as well as Leestown Center Way. Once the work is complete, all lanes will reopen. The left lanes in both directions will remain open.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, weather permitting:
- The right lane of Leestown Road (US 421) northbound will close from Taylor Drive to the New Circle Road inner loop on-ramp (MM 1.6 and 1.7).
- The right lane of Leestown Road southbound will close from Opportunity Way to the New Circle Road outer loop on-ramp (MM 2.0 – 1.87).
- Leestown Center Way will close.
- Vehicles can use Opportunity Way as a detour for the Leestown Center Way closure.
- Once all work is completed, all lanes will reopen.
- Delays are possible; please plan accordingly.
The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange, improving safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
