COVINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 21, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of various roadway and traffic improvements now underway in Boone County. Crews will be working on sections of KY 14, KY 16 and U.S. 25.
Areas of Work
-
Mary Grubbs Highway (KY 14):
- Asphalt resurfacing, upgraded traffic signal detectors and asphalt rehabilitation with grading/drainage improvements.
- Project area will begin at Stephenson Mill Road (8.05 mile point) extending east to Dixie Highway (8.83 mile point), a distance of 0.78 miles.
-
Walton-Nicholson Road (KY 16):
- Asphalt resurfacing beginning at U.S. 25 (2.48 mile point) extending north to the Boone/Kenton County line (3.38 mile point), a distance of 0.9 miles.

- Asphalt resurfacing beginning at Old Lexington Pike/Chambers Road (KY 2951) (2.58 mile point) extending north to Logistics Boulevard (3.99 mile point), a distance of 1.41 miles.
Work on Mary Grubbs Highway is currently underway. This work is taking place between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
In areas where there are three lanes, a single lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. In areas where there are only two lanes, flaggers will be used to guide traffic safely through the work zone.
The project will also include removing existing signal heads and signal controllers, and installing upgraded signal heads and controllers at various locations along Mary Grubbs Highway. These detectors will be installed on Mary Grubbs Highway at the following locations:
- KY 1292/Stephenson Mill Road and I-75 southbound ramps
- I-75 northbound ramps
- Towne Center Drive/School Road
- Towne Center Drive/Beatrice Avenue
- Mary Grubbs Highway and U.S. 25
Additionally, some work will include the removal of an existing traffic island median and the construction of new pavement for the delineation of relocated left-turn lanes. A new storm sewer pipe will be constructed to accommodate the relocation of the left-turn lanes. This separation from mainline traffic will enhance safety for motorists turning left.
Approximately 510 feet of the concrete traffic island will be removed near the area of Mary Grubbs Highway and Towne Center Drive/School Road, along the removal of 400 feet of the concrete traffic island near Beatrice Avenue/Towne Center Drive.
Crews are expected to begin work on Walton-Nicholson Road and Dixie Highway soon. Crews will perform base failures followed by milling and paving operations at a later date. Once this work has been scheduled, KYTC will provide an update on the District 6 Roadshow with any traffic impacts.
Eaton Asphalt Paving Co. INC is contracted to perform the $852,494.43 project on behalf of KYTC. The project is expected to be completed December 2025.
Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
