Roadway Rehabilitation Project on Grand Avenue (KY 1892) in Campbell County to Begin Monday, Oct. 20

Work will include lane and ramp closures throughout duration of project

COVINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a roadway rehabilitation project on Grand Avenue (KY 1892) in Campbell County. The project is expected to begin on Monday, Oct. 20.

Crews will be replacing the concrete pavement with asphalt on Grand Avenue from east of Pavilion Parkway (2.12 mile point) to southeast of Churchill Drive (1.42 mile point), a distance of 0.7 miles. Additionally, curb box inlets will be repaired and sidewalks will be improved to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Project Schedule

  • Beginning Monday, Oct. 20 and lasting for approximately one month: crews will begin working on installing new web walls near the Interstate 471 overpass. While this work is ongoing, crews will also be removing the center median island and installing temporary pavement in two locations in preparation for the work in Spring 2026:
    • Grand Avenue at the I-471 southbound on/off ramps
    • Grand Avenue at the I-471 northbound on/off ramps
  • During this work, the left lane in each direction will be blocked. Additionally, the furthest left turn lane from Pavilion Parkway to eastbound Grand Avenue will be blocked. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.
    • Eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane from Pavilion Parkway to Churchill Drive.
    • Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane from Churchill Drive to west of the I-471 southbound off-ramp.
  • The above traffic impacts are expected to be in place for one month. Crews will return in spring 2026 to continue work on this project.
  • Additional phases for this project will include traffic switches, extended ramp closures and various lane closures in the project area. KYTC will provide future traffic impacts via press release, social media and the KYTC District 6 Roadshow.

Motorists should expect delays during peak traffic times and are encouraged to find alternate routes. Please, drive carefully through the work zone to keep crews safe.

As part of the project, upgraded traffic detectors will be installed to improve congestion and traffic flow on this highly traveled corridor. These detectors will be installed at the following intersections:

  • Grand Avenue and Churchill Drive
  • Grand Avenue and the I-471 southbound off-ramp
  • Grand Avenue and Pavilion Parkway

Riegler Blacktop Inc. is contracted to perform the $3,597,318 project on behalf of KYTC. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed Aug. 1, 2026.

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
