Daytime Closures Continue on KY 1862 Thornton in Letcher County for Drilling Repairs
Crews Move to Mile Point 6.7 next week
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2025) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 office advises motorists that drilling and embankment stabilization work will continue along KY 1862 (Thornton Road) in Letcher County as contract crews move to a new site near mile point 6.7.
The ongoing work follows the recent completion of drilling repairs near Homeplace Drive (MP 3.2) and Phoenix Drive (MP 5.3). Crews will now focus on stabilizing another section of roadway further along KY 1862 to address additional areas of embankment stability.
Work Schedule & Traffic Impact:
- Location: KY 1862, near MP 6.7
- Schedule: Daily, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Duration: Monday and Tuesday Oct. 13-14, weather permitting
- Traffic: The roadway will be closed to through traffic during working hours as before.
• Emergency vehicles and school buses will be accommodated as needed. • The route will reopen to normal traffic after 5 p.m. daily.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, expect delays, and use alternate routes when possible.
KYTC asks drivers to use caution in the work zone, heed all signage, and allow extra travel time. Your patience and cooperation help keep our crews safe while they perform these important roadway stability repairs.
