Baldwin Drive in Madisonville to be Blocked Next Week
Work is part of the U.S. 41A widening project
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (October 3, 2025) – The contractor working on the U.S. 41A widening project in Madisonville intends to block KY 1018 (Baldwin Drive) early next week to begin construction of a new intersection that will align with the future path of the widening roadway.
Baldwin Drive, which runs in front of the KYTC Hopkins County Maintenance Barn, is the roadway that serves as a connector between U.S. 41A and Bean Cemetery Road.
Crews plan to block the roadway at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, October 6 and reopen it to traffic around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8.
This work is a part of an ongoing $16.7 million highway improvement project slated to be completed by Christmas of 2026.
The project will improve U.S. 41-A from Yorkwood Place (1.25 mm) to Industrial Drive (3.3 mm), tying in with previous improvements and widening between Yorkwood Place and U.S. 41/North Main Street.
The majority of the project will consist of entirely new construction, with motorists experiencing only minor traffic delays during the bulk of the work. Traffic near the GE plant is already diverted onto a new temporary roadway, allowing for construction of the permanent road to be completed away from traffic.
The new route will also mean a different traffic configuration for motorists who navigate U.S. 41-A. One of the biggest changes motorists will see is an entirely new and safer intersection with KY 1034/Rose Creek Road. That intersection will be extended out to meet the new path of U.S. 41-A, which will be constructed to the north of the current roadway--the site where earthwork has already started. The five-lane segment that currently ends at Yorkwood Place will be extended by about a half mile to the new intersection of U.S. 41-A and Rose Creek Road. From there it will become a two-lane road with a turning lane and wider shoulders all the way to Industrial Drive.
