Traffic Advisory: Ashland Bridge Inspections Sept. 7-19

Only 12^th Street Bridge closed this week; 13th Street Bridge will remain open

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Sept. 8,  2025) – As a reminder, traffic changes will take place at the downtown Ashland twin bridges over the next two weeks as contractors inspect the Ohio River crossings Sept. 7-19.

The work requires a temporary closure this week of the 12th Street (green) bridge from Ohio to Kentucky. The 13th Street (blue) bridge to Ohio will remain open at all times.

Specific traffic changes for the 12th and 13th street bridges that carry US 23 and US 60 traffic between Kentucky and Ohio include:

• THIS WEEK (Sept. 7-13): The 12th Street Bridge to Kentucky CLOSED at US 52 in Ohio; detour via the Ironton-Russell bridge or other routes. All lanes on the 13th Street Bridge to Ohio will be OPEN.
• NEXT WEEK (Sept. 15-19): The 13th Street Bridge to Ohio remains OPEN; watch for SINGLE-LANE CLOSURES only, merging traffic. The 12th Street Bridge will be OPEN.

During inspections, contractors will use climbing gear, lifts, and specialized trucks to inspect structural components of both bridges. Inclement weather can affect inspection schedules. Daily work and lane closures could be rescheduled for the next clear-weather day.

The Transportation Cabinet’s bridge inspection program is an important safety program to ensure all structures in Kentucky remain usable for traffic and commerce. Inspections require bridge closures and other traffic changes to protect inspection vehicles, equipment and personnel in work zones.
