Overnight Lane Closures Scheduled for

New Circle Road

Thursday, August 28 – Friday, August 29

Nighttime closures 7 p.m. through 5 a.m.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 27, 2025) Construction for the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project in Lexington will require temporary overnight lane closures on New Circle Road between Georgetown Road (US 25) and Leestown Road (US 421) from Thursday night, Aug. 28, until Friday morning, Aug. 29. The closure is necessary to pour the bridge deck on phase one of the bridge carrying New Circle Road over the railroad between Leestown Road and Georgetown Road.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday night, the right lane of the New Circle Road outer loop (KY 4 Westbound) will close between Georgetown Road (US 25) and Leestown Road (US 421). At 10 p.m. the remaining lanes will close, and New Circle Road will be shut down between Georgetown and Leestown Roads. Both lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday morning.

Drivers on New Circle Road will need to exit onto Georgetown Road heading north and turn left onto Citation Boulevard (KY 1878). From Citation, traffic will detour onto Leestown Road (US 421) and can re-enter New Circle Road there.

Wednesday, August 28

  • At 7 p.m, the right lane of the New Circle Road (KY 4) outer loop will close between Georgetown and Leestown Roads (US 25/US 421).
  • At 10 p.m., the remaining lanes of the New Circle Road outer loop will close between Georgetown and Leestown Roads.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

This work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange, improving safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. Find more information online at DrivingLexingtonProgress.org.

All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
