U.S. 60 to be Blocked at Carter Road on Wednesday
Bridge repairs continue
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (August 5, 2025) – A contractor working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to block the U.S. 60 Wendell Ford Expressway in Owensboro on Wednesday, August 5 beginning at 8 a.m. to continue work on a damaged prestressed concrete support beam.
Closure of the roadway is needed during this work to ensure that potential falling debris is not a hazard to motorists. Traffic in both directions will be detoured off of U.S. 60 via the Carter Road exit ramps. Personnel will be flagging traffic at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Carter Road in both directions. From there motorists can take the on-ramp to return to the expressway on the opposite side of the bridge.
The blockage is scheduled to last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Work is being carried out to repair damaged sustained in June 2024 from a vehicle striking the bridge. Due to the structure of the bridge, the replacement beam had to be specifically designed and fabricated to fit the needs of the structure, resulting in a lengthy delay before repairs could be started.
One more such closure is expected before the beam replacement is completed in mid-September. KYTC will provide updated information about that closure when it is scheduled.
